A new era in patient support
As we all know, self-infusion can be a challenging process for many patients, especially those who are new to it. Therefore, we are very excited to announce the arrival of a new era in patient support by introducing an interactive app that encourages learning and provides emotional support when self-infusing.
Introducing myARwin
The app is made, not only for those who are learning how to self-infuse, but also for patients that need a little extra support or refresh due to on demand treatment or change of injection site.
myArwin targets 4 key areas:
AR is one of the biggest technology trends right now. It is not only a fun way to learn, but research also shows that it improves effectiveness of learning compared to traditional methods.1 The AR section of myARwin aims to train patients on the different steps of self-infusing, without using any real-life equipment by using only their mobile phone and the top of a table. For instance, they will be able to practice needle angles, cleaning the injection site and preparing a butterfly needle. The purpose here is for patients to familiarise themselves with the process of self-infusing, improving confidence when they are to perform self-infusion for real.

myARwin offers an interactive video that is split into sections, that will show each step of the self-infusion process. Here, patients and their caregivers can follow a step-by-step guide in the form of real-life videos. The videos have been split into specific steps for self-infusing with easy pause, skip and select step functionality. This allows patients to personalise their guidance and perform each step at their own pace.
Amongst doctors, nurses and patients there is a wealth of knowledge on how to make self-infusion more successful and what to do when things do not go according to plan. Within myARwin users will find many tips and tricks that have been collected from healthcare providers, patients and caregivers and processed by an expert group of hematology nurses. The support here covers many aspects of self-infusion such as how to prepare by practicing on stuffed animals and how to make veins more visible; to information on when to stop an infusion attempt and try again.
To stay calm and focused before, during and after self-infusing is important both for the result and the self-infusion experience, itself. Therefore, a guided breathing exercise section has been added as an important feature within myARwin. Here, patients will be taken through a breathing exercise to help support them find a place of calm at any point during their self-infusion.
To support families, myARwin also includes a fun character in the form of a robot coach: Arwin. Arwin will support patients throughout their self-infusion by offering guidance and cheering them on. The coach can be customised and users can take part in a self-infusion quiz to earn stars, using them to change Arwins outfits and colours. The robot coach feature is optional and can easily be switched on or off.

The app is not linked to any certain product and is free to download. It is also available in all Nordic languages, supporting all hematology patients, caregivers and healthcare providers using IV butterfly needle self-infusion.
